Ellicott Square building :: Elevators
The Ellicott Square building was designed by Charles Atwood and was completed in May of 1896. At the time of its completion it was the largest office building in the world. During 1896 - 1897 it was the location of the Vitascope theatre, which was the first in the world dedicated motion picture theatre.
The interior courtyard floor is a mosaic of 23 million pieces of marble. It was designed by William Winthrop Kent and James A. Johnson. It depicts the sun as icons from many cultures around the world.
