When you see the magnifying glass, it means there is an embedded still image in the panorama.
While the controls provide an interface for certain functions, they are not needed for basic navigation. Simply move your cursor into the image area of the panorama, press and hold your mouse button, then drag the image in any direction you like.
The "Full Screen" button is your friend.
To return to the browser view, press your "escape" key on your keyboard.
